What is the meaning of being an Artist?

So yea its, again, been a god awful long time since i last updated anything.

here is one of the first shots i made on my way up to civic center to get onto golden gate.

so i guess i'll just throw up some photos that i made with the yashcia from one roll...i have two other rolls in the works but i need to find a decently priced place that develops and scans film up here in SF...they all seem a little overpriced. ah well. Oh and these weren't negative scans. i printed them first and then i scanned it. it took me a while to find a decent hi res scanner here at SFSU.

Haha i really liked this one because if you can look closely, the first boy is going "WAHH!" not crying but shouting. haha. i thought it was highly amusing. my only qualm with this photo is that i didnt get close enough...bummer. oh well.

in philosophy class today we were talking about socrates and then some how off tangented to art. Its quite interesting because once we realize it in the end...there is no such thing as art because it all belongs in the eye of the beholder and since there is no derivation or base we can work upon, art doesnt exist! i found that troubling yet pretty amusing. I think how the general population of the world (minus all the hardcore socrates/plato buggers out there) its more of a biased opinion...in photography and all. which honestly how bad biased is, its not that bad since by establishing a base we can define what art is....cause if there's no art in the world thats terrible!

This one was a little too dark. all good though. I think i made a lighter print of it too but i may have misplaced it....ohh well.

We also discussed the nature of the artist him/herself (assuming that art is real that is. haha) Its noticable that artists really cant speak or express themselves in any other way besides their given mastered (or chosen) art form. I think that is true because i've met many an artist and they are not articulate nor wise in anyway...but when you see it all spill out on the canvas...or on a silver gelatin print...or in a song they become wise beyond their limits...maybe even the limits of the non artistic folk! Is it like...a epiphaniatic moment when we are in that so called "groove?" i dunno maybe you guys are the better artists out there because i cant answer that.

i like the contrast in this picture...not the color wise but the people wise. We have the hulking police man ready to jump on any protestor that seems to want to cause a ruckus...and then you have the small children. i found it rather amusing.
now hold your horses on calling me a freak or anything. While i was at the protest (see post before the one below this) i saw this little kid just kind of wandering around. He turns out to be the son of a rather prominent SF lawyer...will he follow in his father's footsteps one day and become a great lawyer too? and whats he thinking? well naturally what children think about but really what is it? i dunno but i didnt hesitate to make a photo here.
finally we have this one. I like making photos of SF bums. they're always interesting. If i recall....i think this guy took a shot of heroin and just sat there. yea seriously.
